Group corporate headshots in Vancouver don't have to be stuffy

Group corporate headshots can be creative. Don’t believe me- it’s true!

What comes to mind you think “corporate headshots”?

While the idea of business portraits (another term for corporate headshots) may still have a reputation today for being somewhat unimaginative and stale aesthetically, the truth is that they simply don't have to be. They can be elegant and eye-catching. They can exude a company's brand and values and create the right kind of impression with both current and potential clients.

A little bit of creativity in planning a group photo shoot for your company can go a long way…

With any photo shoot, you’re going to get out of it what you put into it (as in life!). These are the steps I recommend if you’re planning a photo shoot, including group corporate headshots. Take advantage of the consultation offered by your photographer (hi!) to discuss your vision for these headshots. What’s your brand? What are your company’s core values? Thinking about these questions will help to get the ball rolling on bringing real clarity to what you’re after for your company headshots. Just look at these group corporate headshots that were done for local Vancouver real estate company, REW. This is a company that is CLEAR on its brand, and photographing corporate headshots for them has always been a delight.

Your company’s online representation matters.

As such, my recommendation is to not come at this from a point of view of “these are just corporate headshots for the website- I don’t need anything special.” As human beings we can instantly recognize beautiful quality corporate imagery that has had thought and creativity put into it versus- and I’m going to be blunt here- the company who opted for the cheapest photographer they could find.

So I always encourage my corporate clients to put in a lot of thought before their photo shoot, even when I’ve been hired to go on location somewhere in the Lower Mainland for large scale, on-site employee headshots. The same rules apply for a successful photo shoot. By incorporating creative elements and modern photography techniques, group corporate headshots can be visually appealing and convey a sense of personality and authenticity. This not only helps to humanize a company but also attracts and engages viewers, making them more likely to connect with and remember the individuals and the business as a whole.

Group business headshots in Vancouver

When it comes to corporate headshots, the image that often comes to mind is a group of stiffly posed employees in front of a plain backdrop. However, this traditional approach to group corporate headshots is becoming outdated. In today's competitive business world, it's important to stand out and make a lasting impression. That's why more and more companies are opting for creative group headshots. Here are some tips on how to make your group corporate headshots stand out and leave a lasting impression.

One of the easiest ways to add creativity to your group corporate headshots is by choosing an interesting location. Instead of the typical office backdrop, consider taking the photos in a unique setting that reflects your company's brand or values. This could be a local park, a rooftop with a city skyline, or even a graffiti-covered alleyway. Not only will this add visual interest to the photos, but it will also give your employees a chance to showcase their personalities in a more relaxed environment.

Props and Accessories

Another way to add creativity to your group corporate headshots is by incorporating props and accessories. This could be anything from company-branded items, such as mugs or t-shirts, to items that reflect the individual's personality or role within the company. For example, a marketing team could hold up a whiteboard with a creative slogan, while the IT team could pose with their laptops. These props and accessories not only add visual interest but also give insight into the company's culture and the roles of each employee.

Group Dynamics

Instead of the traditional posed group shot, consider capturing the group in a more natural and dynamic way. This could be through candid shots of the team working together or interacting with each other. These types of photos not only showcase the team's camaraderie but also give a glimpse into the company's culture and working environment. It's also a great way to capture genuine smiles and expressions (though don’t worry, as your photographer, it’s my responsibility to coach everyone I photograph to get a natural expression from them).

Individual Shots

While group photos are important (and often overlooked by companies), individual employee headshots are what corporate clients come to me for 9 times out of 10. These can be used for employee profiles on the company website or for marketing materials. To add a creative touch, have each employee choose a unique pose or expression for their individual shot. This will not only add variety to the photos but also allow each employee to showcase their personality.

A High Quality, Professional Photographer

Finally (and I know I’m biased here), I highly recommend that you opt for a professional photographer whose work resonates with you. In fact, I believe that it’s imperative to hire a top-tier photographer if you want your group corporate headshots to turn out professionally and creatively. They will have the expertise and experience necessary to capture beautiful-quality photos that reflect your company's brand and values. They can also offer suggestions and ideas for making the photos more creative and unique.

Remember, your company will be judged by the quality of its employees’ headshots on its website.

It’s a cruel truth that your clients will absolutely judge the success of your company based on how good your employees headshots are on the company’s website. Photos always provide information to the viewer and it’s important to consider what impression you want to make on clients with your company’s employee headshots.

By following these tips, you can break away from the traditional and stuffy group corporate headshots and create photos that are creative, memorable, and reflective of your company's culture. Don't be afraid to think outside the box and have fun with the process. Your employees and potential clients will appreciate the effort and creativity put into these photos.
