What to look for in a grad photographer
What should you look for when choosing a grad photographer for your teen?
One of my favorite things about photographing teenagers is that they don’t give anything away for free. You need to connect with them before they’ll open up on camera for you. This is one of the reasons why I LOVE photographing teens and seniors. Giving the very best service I can to each of my clients is incredibly important to me as a business owner and I love taking the time to get to know the young person I’m going to be photographing through their complimentary consultation before they book, then later at their complimentary wardrobe consultation, and finally on the day I get to spend with them for their photo shoot.
So, in my opinion, one thing you should look for when choosing a grad photographer is someone who’s willing to take the time to connect with your child, especially because I find that teens are normally a little shy at first. If they’re not completely comfortable with their photographer by the time their photo shoot day rolls around, they’re not going to feel comfortable letting who they really are shine on camera.
The other thing that’s incredibly important is to find a photographer who is willing to make you child’s dreams come true. Amazing senior portraits often require a lot of work AFTER the photo shoot has ended. The first 2 photos in this blog post required several hours of editing which I was more than happy to do to create portraits that I know will be cherished for generations to come.
Is your photographer willing to put in the work for your teen? Kids are so creative and have so many ideas they’re excited to bring to the table for their graduation portraits. There is nothing more rewarding than listening to, and incorporating, the concepts they’re dreaming of to give them portraits more beautiful than they could imagine…
